Personal Policies

Well, I'm only a few days into my blog and I was tagged by Kate for a Personal Policies meme! Makes me feel welcomed by the blog world. So here goes:

1. When I'm having trouble finding time alone with the Lord, I read the Proverb that corresponds to the date and a devotional entry from Amy Carmichael. (many times while hiding in the bathroom)
2. I always place dirty dishes in the left side of the sink, so the right side is always empty.
3. Along those lines, I run the dishwasher every night, whether it's full or not, so all my dishes are clean first thing in the morning. (These are the things that makes my Mom call me "Monk!")
4. When in the car, I always see what's on public radio first, before listening to anything else.
5. Like 50 Toes, I drink Diet Coke, not Pepsi, unless DC is not available.
6. I stop whatever I'm doing to admire the birds that come to our many feeders.
7. I try to stop whatever I'm doing to dispense a hug to whomever needs it. (Need to be more consistent with that one, I admit. :) )
8. My Sweetie and I always say "I love you" before hanging up the phone - we've done it every time for all delightful 15 years we've been married.
9. I call out "Army Assemble!" and all my kids (the ones that can walk) come running to where I am to receive instructions.
10. I try to alternate the types of books I read between easy, fun reads and serious, brain-exercising ones.
11. I hand out chocolate chips (or M & Ms if I have 'em) as rewards for just about everything, from using the potty to completing a difficult math assignment.
12. If we are nutritionally backslidden (from things like #11) then everyone gets carrot sticks - carrot sticks cover a multitude of junk food sins!
13. There's not much wrong with my mood that cranking a good tune from U2 as loud as I can safely get it won't fix!

There you have it. Now, in honor of yesterday being Father's Day, I tag my sweet Dad.

I really thought I was the only nerd who liked public radio. Fresh air is fun to listen to as well. great list!

I'm not up that early ... I don't know how to fix the clock! It's pacific time, I guess. I love "fresh air" and "composer's datebook" and Prairie Home Companion" - plus all the good music! Love ya!

Jennifer,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. It's nice to be in touch again. I'll try to write an e-mail soon. BTW, the name of your blog resonated with me right off--I regularly remind myself of those words from Elizabeth Eliot. Great for a blog title!

I thought I was the only one with a Sink Policy. (I thought that because whenever I explain that to people- as they are putting stuff in the sink- they look at me with that odd expression...) But at our house the right side is for dirty and the left is for clean things that are still-wet-even-though-they've-been-through-the-dry-cycle.
