Another Happy Birthday!

It's birthday season at our house. Today is a milestone ... my firstborn turns 13! Yes, at 3:38am I became the mother of a teenager. S. was not only our first child, but the first grandchild on both sides of the family. Despite all the grandmothers' spoiling, he has remained a very sweet, even-keeled boy. He is a lego-builder, nature-lover, scientist, and friend to all animals. He loves to read, loves to act, and loves computers. He has been my right arm with the arrival of babies #4 and #5. He is not just my son, but quickly becoming ... my friend. Happy Birthday, S!

Happy Birthday! Is that a bonsai tree? My oldest will be thirteen in December. One year he really wanted a venus fly trap so this picture made me laugh. Our two boys sound a bit alike. Science, reading, acting, animal loving... I love that my older children are now my friends. It is such a nice benefit to parenting.

We've got two December birthdays, 4 that fall within six weeks of each other in the middle of the spring that we celebrate with one GIANT icecream cake that we pull out of the freezer about every other week. And then there's my lone summer birthday.

Great shots! Is that a bonsai? My hubby is into bonsai's. How cool.

Your pics are great. I love the one with his little sis. How adorable!
Yes, it is a bonsai - his most treasured birthday present! He loves plants and often reads a "big-book-on-everything-about-plants"type book at bedtime. He also has a venus fly trap, a project he stareted this time last year when he was studying Botany with Apologia. The thing sits in my kitchen windowsil and actually catches flies!
Side note: the poor kid got stung by a sting ray on his birthday! I've never seen a kid howl like he did. Got a free ride in the lifeguard's truck, though- kinda cool. He's better today.

He looks like Phil's mini-me! I hope your parenting through the teens is rewarding and blessed.

BTW, that last comment was from me, not Mark. I can't seem to get your blogger to accept my "other" identity in comments, and my old blogger identities aren't working. Eventually, I'll break down and get a new account.
